Do these exist in other parts of the world?
There are a whole series of these on lamp posts in Belgrave. They are a few years old and some are starting to show their age. Some, like the one above are applied directly to the post while others are painted on to a sheet of canvas which is then attached to the post. The themes follow the trades that are represented in the town. I’m not sure if there are any plans to repair or replace them, but I’ll find out. It’s such a simple idea, I’m amazed that it does not happen anywhere else.
This should be an international urban custom. I love these, and they would inject an element of much needed common sense into any walk

Thank you for your comments. I realised the other day that I had become used to these and so they get overlooked. Familiarity is a problem. I too think they are cool and I think I’m going to try and get the older damaged ones repaired….. or I might go back to bed, I haven’t decided.

Fantastic!Though I’d expect they’d be vandalised here in Ireland.

We are a long way out of the city but I’m amazed that these have not been damaged over the years. Maybe there is hope after all?

This town is not far from where I live but I drive through so have never noticed. I will have to stop and walk around. They remind me of the bollards in Geelong.

While you are at it check out Blacksmiths lane, especially the back of the health food store about half way along, and near the station entrance their are two murals as well. The mural on the high side [Puffing Billy mural] is worth a look as well.
Enjoy.

I have seen many buildings, windows, vehicles with art, but this is the first lamp post art. I like it.

I agree, it is unusual, but I’m not sure why it has been done before.

Belgrave looks an interesting place. I see there is some yarn bombing in the background as well. Thank you, that will be a nice day out for me to check all this out.

I’ve passed through a number of towns with painted posts, but I couldn’t name them for you now… I think there was one just outside Launceston, there are a few places around greater Brisbane and there may be some more around Victoria? Not all are of industry. Some are flowers, some are just colourful, but all add character to the town/suburb. Lovely idea.

Thanks for the comments. I’m pleased that it is done elsewhere. I’ll have to do a bit more research and find out who the artist is.

I’ve seen fire hydrants repainted & decorated, but not lamp posts. Fun.
