Your son seems to have a photographer’s eye in making a great B & W (as well as capturing the love between adult & child).
Given the topic — and, as someone above commented, the obvious love between the two — the picture would have been wonderful no matter what. But in addition to that, I do love the way the dark tree trunk to the right hugs them in its curve, and the brightness behind is a sort of halo…
